Richard Baudains

Tasting: Chianti Classico Riserva

Very dark purple modern extracted look. Intense, baked fruit nose. Intense, sweet juicy palate, all at the front, weak middle and short finish, but pure berry fruit in the finish gives promise.

Emily O'Hare

Tasting: Chianti Classico Riserva

Showing no sign of age – colour is deep, opaque and purple. Very sweet, chocolate toffee nose. More fruit on palate – where is the Sangiovese? Tastes adulterated. Nope.

Michael Palij

Tasting: Chianti Classico Riserva

Opaque, super-saturated core completely unrepresentative of Sangiovese and typical of ultra-modern vinification that prizes colour over more stable tannins. Jammy, stewed black fruit with a whiff of American oak covering the cracks. Short and contrived.
