Cordier Mestrezat Grands Crus are launching a range of luxury wine storage boxes to house rare collections of large-format Bordeaux bottles.
The Bordeaux negociant is moving beyond its traditional fine wine distribution and into the premium packaging industry with their new Cordier Vintaged Collection, currently on dispay at Vinexpo in Bordeaux.
The range includes a luxury box to hold a 27 litre primat, equivalent to 36 standard bottles, and two styles of trunk which can contain 11 different formats, all in original wooden boxes, ranging from half-bottles to 18 litre melchoirs.
As well as a bespoke range for fourth and fifth growths, there are also custom boxes to house second and third growths, ‘to respect the Bordeaux classification’, the company says.
The limited edition sets, which are hand-crafted in Bordeaux and fully customisable, will be made up from Cordier’s allocation of Bordeaux wine bought en primeur.
They will be made from single vintages only, starting with 2010.
Speaking to Decanter.com, David Bolzan, managing director of Cordier Mestrezat Grands Crus, said the company was ‘trying to reach a special type of customer who is only interested in a special type of product’.
‘We wanted to make a range that was exceptional and at this level of price people are looking for something unique. We have chosen to launch at Vinexpo but we have been working on this for the past 18 months,’ he said.
Pierre-Eric Sabattier, export director for Cordier, added: ‘We are doing our jobs as negociants, to add value, as they used to do in the past. It’s history repeating itself; we’re innovating, creating, adding value and doing something different.’
