A host of renowned New World winemakers including Bruno Prats, Aurelio Montes, Donald Hess and Bruce Tyrell will be pouring their wines at the Decanter New World Fine Wine Encounter next month.
The event, on 9 May in London, offers wine lovers a chance to try over 300 wines from 60 of the best new world producers, as well as a chance to talk to the winemakers themselves.
Prats, former owner of Chateau Cos d’Estournel, will be pouring wines for Anwilka, his joint venture with Hubert de Bouard of Chateau Angelus and Lowell Jooste of Klein Constantia Estate in South Africa.
Hess and Montes will be pouring wine on their respective stands, and Tyrell is presenting a masterclass with Anthony Rose.
Steven Spurrier’s Best New World Chardonnays class will take visitors around the new world to compare the varietal as it is best expressed in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, California and Chile.
Anthony Rose’s ‘Variety is the Spice of Australian Life’, with Bruce Tyrell, will feature a range of grapes and styles, from Penfolds’ Shiraz to Hardy’s Arras Tasmanian sparkling wine, to De Bortoli’s Noble One and Buller’s hard-to-find Calliope Rare Tokay.
And South America expert Peter Richards will present ‘Viva la Revolución’, a tasting introducing visitors to the most exciting wineries in Chile and Argentina. He will cover familiar names like Montes and O’Fournier, to less well-known producers such as Mayu and De Martino.
New at this year’s Encounter is the Discovery Theatre, where visitors will have a chance to sample top wines in informal tutored tastings led by the producers who made them – including Aurelio Montes of Montes in Chile, Phil Ryan from Australia’s McWilliams, and the Chenin Blanc Association from South Africa.
For the first time, visitors also will be able to order selected wines from producers at the event.
