This year's Global Tastings programme, set up in partnership with Enomatic, sees a host of award-winning wines being available to taste in over 60 locations around the world including Canada, Chile, Hong Kong, Turkey and the UK.
Starting today, a series of Decanter tastings will be staged globally allowing wine enthusiasts wherever they are a chance to taste DWWA winners.
The tasting partnership with Enomatic, the worldwide leader in wine serving technology, will showcase a selection of International, Regional, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Commended winners across 28 countries around the world.
Decanter publishing director Sarah Kemp said that sharing an enjoyment of wine with others was at the heart of the concept.
‘Our Global Tastings programme couldn’t be a better way of letting people taste the wines that our experts have considered to be really exceptional and hopefully allowing them to broaden their knowledge and enjoyment of wine on a global scale.
‘I’m very excited to think that across the world for the next fortnight people will have the opportunity to taste these exceptional wines and really have a fantastic chance to discover new vintages, grape varieties, regions and producers.’
The UK has six venues including Le Vignoble in Plymouth, Divino Enoteca in Edinburgh, Loki Wine Merchants in Birmingham and The London Wine Shop at Harrods which is offering samples of Penfolds Yattarna Chardonnay 2008 which won the Regional Trophy for Australian Chardonnay over £10 plus Gold winner Brokenwood Graveyard Shiraz 2009 from the Hunter Valley in Australia.
Other venues across Europe include Bu in Bordeaux, The Yeatman in Porto, Enoteca di Piazza in Montepulciano, and Chai et Bar in Brussels which is showcasing the Regional Trophy winner for Non-Vintage Champagne; Henriot Blanc de Blancs, plus Charles Heidsieck’s Millesmie 2000 which was awarded a gold medal.
Worldwide wine merchants sampling DWWA wines stretch from Calgary to Taipei to Mumbai and Melbourne.
Jack Mullard, director of The Tasting Table, one of two venues showcasing DWWA wines in Australia said: ‘The Decanter Global Tasting allows people to try some of Australia and the World’s best wines using the best wine gadget: Enomatic machines.
‘We’re really looking forward to our Launch Party Tasting on 3rd October and are hoping as many people as possible can join us. This is our first year and we’re incredibly excited about being involved.’
The Tasting Table will be offering samples of New Zealand’s Greystone Riesling, winner of the Regional Trophy for Riesling over £10 as well as three Gold medal winners, Cillar de Silos from Ribera del Duero, All Saints Estate’s Grand Muscat from Australia and Josmeyer’s Gewürztraminer from France.
The founder and CEO of WINE by ONE merchants in Paris, which has samples of 40 winners including one International and three Regional Trophy winners, Stephane Girard said: ‘This event is a great opportunity to present our unique WINE by ONE concept to a larger international audience in the great company of Decanter and Enomatic. The wines awarded by Decanter are a clear sign of excellence and we look forward to offering a large selection of the winners by the glass at WINE by ONE throughout October.’
Among the merchants taking part in America, The Urban Grape in Massachusetts will be offering samples of 16 DWWA winners.
Proprietors TJ and Hadley Douglas said: ‘Just after celebrating our one year anniversary at The Urban Grape, this is an exceptional experience and we look forward to sharing these wines with our most valued clients – some bottles are like old friends, while the others are sure to become new favourites.’
