Deliveroo has begun delivering wine and craft beer in the UK, claiming that its bikers can get wines to consumers in London within 20 minutes of placing an order.
Deliveroo said that it has partnered with Majestic Wine and craft beer specialist Brewdog to deliver drinks.
Eight Majestic stores are initially taking part in London, and there are 20 Brewdog hubs around the country, it said. Those ordering in London can expect their wine to arrive ‘in an average of 20 minutes’, it added.
Deliveroo has risen to prominence in the past couple of years as an on-demand food delivery service. Its bikers charge commission to pick up food from restaurants and deliver it to diners’ homes.
Instant delivery of food and drink is becoming big business. Several companies already offer this in London, including Amazon Prime and Hubbub, and taxi app Uber also ventured into food delivery this month for the first time.
But Deliveroo will hope that its offer of premium restaurant food and wine brought to your door within half-an-hour can mark it out from the competition.
