Liberty Wines apprentice named Young Wine Writer of the Year

Liberty Wines’ Nicola Cornelius has been named Young Wine Writer of the Year 2009.

Decanter consultant editor Steven Spurrier announced the winner at a presentation in London’s Australia House on behalf of the Circle of Wine Writers on Tuesday evening.

Cornelius, who has worked at Liberty Wines since 2008, was presented with a cheque for £1000, as well as a two-week trip to the wine regions of Australia, and an engraved glass decanter for her entry ‘From backpacking cellar-hands to flying winemakers: The sunny side of globalisation’.

‘I’m totally stunned that I’ve just won this award,’ Cornelius told decanter.com

‘It’s fantastic to win– I’m going to carry on at Liberty Wines and hope to do a bit of writing on the side. The Circle of Wine Writers is quite a prestigious group – it’s a real honour.’

Douglas Blyde and Abi Tyler were named as runners-up.
