Stephane Derenoncourt is to consult on a new winery in India.
The Bordeaux-based consultant recently announced the consultancy of his Vignerons Consultants with India’s Gowda family in the 400ha Alpine Winery.
The estate is in the Mysore District of India’s southern state of Karnataka and expects its first harvest in 2011.
Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc predominate the 150ha planted to date.
Raghavendra Gowda, whose family have been distillers for 35 years, told decanter.com that the winery will create a tourist facility with a spa and sommelier school.
The move to India follows Derenoncourt’s partnerships with Turkey’s Kavaklidere, the Saade family’s twin projects at Syria’s Bargylus and Lebanon’s Marsyas, Virginia’s Boxwood, Napa Valley’s Coppola, and his eponymous project in nearby Lake County in California.
Vignerons Consultants has also assumed consultancy duties at Tuscany’s Fattoria La Massa following the departure of its former consultant Carlo Petrini.
