No own-label range of classic expressions would be complete without an Argentinian Malbec, and this one is a cracker. The grapes for this Uco Valley wine, made by Zuccardi, come from vines grown at altitudes of between 800m and 1,400m above sea level, from three sub-regions: Vista Flores, Las Consulta and Tupungato. The wine – aged for 10 months in a mix of French oak and concrete eggs – is a gorgeous balance between textural, richly fruited density and freshness. Notes of wild dark berries, salted plums and spice intermingle, with a fragrance that lingers. The oak isn't overdone but gives the structure to make this a great match for the stereotypical steak, and other robustly flavoured meat dishes. Mix-six price: £13.99.
