Tesco, Finest Dessert Semillon, Riverina, South Eastern Australia 2019

This is one of the best value dessert wines on the high street – it would be utterly delicious served chilled with a juicy peach or nectarine, or an apricot tart. The own-label wine is made by De Bortoli, the producer of Australia's most famous and awarded sweet wine, Noble One. It's made in the same, botrytised style, with similar flavours of orange marmalade, apricot jam, lemon sherbert, candied peel and barley sugar. Fully sweet, it nevertheless dances on the palate, despite the residual sugar, the racy acidity keeping it fresh and moreish.
