McGuigan, Shortlist Chardonnay, Adelaide Hills, 2015

This wine is deliciously complex, starting with a smoky, spicy nose with some struck match notes. The rich and powerful palate has a slight woody astringency that provides a structure for the vanilla, black pepper, citrus and bacon to cling to. It has good length and is well balanced by a vibrant acidity, but does favour oak complexity over fruit expression.
