The Story, R Lane Vintners Westgate Vineyard Shiraz

From vines planted in 1969, Rory Lane says the Westgate vineyard is the best-quality grape source he has found in his 12 years of winemaking. The 'R Lane Vintners' line is a single vineyard reserve range of his 'The Story' wines, which are blends of vineyards high up in the Grampians. This is made from 60% whole bunch fruit, wild-yeast fermented then matured for 12 months in barrel and barrique and four months in tank, before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. It has an alluring perfume of alpine trees and dense red fruits, which follow on to the vibrant, refreshing palate. Supple tannins, juicy black fruits, violets, and pepper spice offer real lift through to the long finish.

Grampians Shiraz dances differently here than anywhere else in Australia. Sultry, mineral, tart, spicy, plummy and stemmy; this is very accomplished.
