Peter Mertes, Ara Grüner Veltliner, Niederösterreich, 2018

Founded by Mosel winemaker Peter Mertes almost 100 years ago, the eponymous winery remains under family ownership. Made from hand-harvested grapes grown in Austria's Niederösterreich region, this has great young Grüner typicity, with an overt white pepperiness on the nose and rounded green apple fruit. Extended lees contact gives added textural interest.
