Massoc Frères, Le Moscatel, Itata Valley, Chile, 2018

Quite unlike any Muscat I’ve tasted, this old vine Moscatel de Alejandría (80+ years old!) from Itata has entered the world, or atelier, of renowned winemaker François Massoc and come out slightly transformed. After a couple years aging in the bottle, the nose is still flamboyant but the palate more weighty with freshness and persistence and notes of orange blossom, lemon sherbet and wild mint. Refreshing and distinctive.
