Lan Sai, Sai Long Teng, Helan Mountain East, Ningxia, China, 2016

An intriguing oaked Chardonnay from Ningxia, with an annual production of only 2,000 to 3,000 bottles. The wine was partially fermented in stainless steel and the rest in oak barrels, which gave it a distinctive perfumed Osmanthus and honeyed vanilla nose. Cooked pear, grapefruit, and bitter apple peel flavours on the palate, the buttery texture is well balanced by fresh acidity.
