Bire, Grk, Lumbarda, Dalmatia, Croatia, 2023

One of the benchmarks of the variety, which is rare, and while plantings are expanding, Grk has historically only been planting on the southern end of the island of Korčula, around the town of Lumbarda. For this wine, the blocks are picked and fermented separately; it's a blend of different sites and soils that significantly impact Grk. Iron-rich soils provide acidity, while sandy soils give the wines heft and phenolics. The three sites for this Grk blend have very different soil types. Aromas of pear skin and cut green apple transition to a lean palate, salted lemon wedge, and concentrated Meyer lemon pulp give the wine a fruity depth.
