You get a lovely hit of smoky oak on the nose here. There is still fruit underneath, but the grilled almond notes are much more marked than in the other vintages because this was a rainy year, so the fruit doesn't quite push through. In fact, they raised the percentage of new barrels up to 68% in anticipation of this, and it probably does add interest and relief. An enjoyable wine which still has life in it, but don't wait too long. Not a typical vintage, but showcases the winemaker's skill. (NB: Bottle label may not correspond to precise vintage)
