Lidl, Comtesse de Balmont Sauternes 2017

Half-bottles are perfect for Sauternes – and this one is a great value example of Bordeaux's famous sweet wine. Made predominantly from Sémillon with a little Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, the golden colour in the glass leads to aromas and flavours of marmaladey citrus fruit, almost toasty. There's a weight of sweet fruit, balanced by fresh acidity. One of the classic matches for Sauternes is blue cheese, and Lidl recommends trying it with their Loxley Blue Shropshire.
