Tesco is offering a number of clarets at various price points this winter, but our pick of them all is this Margaux. At £23 it's one of the pricier bottles but if you're looking for something with some complexity and a degree of evolution, this is a great buy. Produced by Margaux classified third-growth Château Boyd-Cantenac, this has matured for around 18 months in 40% new oak, with lees stirring, and then spent a few years in bottle before release, giving it some leathery complexity. Very expressive aromatically, with blackcurrant and black plum, and a violet floral fragrance. In the mouth it's fleshy and mouthfilling, with cedar and some wild herbs alongside the black fruits, and a savoury, meaty aspect. Structured, lifted and elegant.
