Not easy to find claret worth drinking for under a tenner, but The Wine Society has come up trumps with this wine, which it has been buying for around 15 years. Blaye on the Right Bank is a good source of value, and the owner of this family-owned château, Jean-Michel Baudet, is a leading proponent of sustainable viticulture in the region – the estate is Terra Vitis accredited and Jean-Michel is president of Terra Vitis Bordeaux. Majority Merlot, with some Cabernet Sauvignon and a splash of Malbec, this ages for a year in barrel, 20% new. It's deeply coloured and has decent concentration for the price, with ripe and rich dark fruit. Great value.
