Domaine Sylvain Pataille, Clos du Roy, Marsannay, 2013

Sylvain Pataille was my discovery of 2014 – he has brought a breath of fresh air to this underrated appellation. Before setting up his domaine in 2001, he worked as vineyard consultant but now looks after 13ha of his own. He makes very impressive, terroir-driven, pure wines. This has a beautiful rose and raspberry perfume, silky tannins and a refined and classy fresh red fruit palate. His rosé is also a must-try.
