Lidl, Comte de Senneval Millésimé Brut, Champagne, 2013

This is a step up from the basic non-vintage Comte de Senneval. It's made in a young, fresh style and it wouldn't be out of the question to buy a couple of bottles and hide them away for next winter - it will be even better with an extra year's age. In theory, the Pinot Meunier (more than half of the blend here) gives fruit and approachability. And yes, you'll find lots of bright and juicy apple and pear fruit here. It's a good straightforward fizz that would work well both as an aperitif or with canapés.
