Aldi's Veuve Monsigny Champagnes (made by Philizot & Fils) are regular award winners – particularly the bargain-busting Brut NV (£13.49). This is a little pricier but worth it for the extra nutty, biscuity complexity the longer ageing brings to the Chardonnay's lipsmacking green apple and citrus flavours. Online only.
