Chassaux et Fils, Specially Selected Pézenas, Languedoc-Roussillon, France 2020

The 2019 vintage of this vibrant, appealing wine was one of our favourites from last year's Aldi range. This one is more primary fruit than savoury meatiness, but still packs a punch with its intense blackcurrant pastille aromas and succulent flavours of berry coulis and black pepper. The bottle, while unnecessarily heavy, is classy and it would make an excellent gift.
