Waitrose, Loved & Found Clairette, Languedoc Roussillon, France 2020

Waitrose's great Loved & Found range features lesser-known grapes worth discovering, all for under £10 a bottle. Clairette enjoys a fairly low profile even in its home in the Rhône valley, where it plays second fiddle to Viognier and Grenache Blanc, even to Roussanne and Marsanne. But it's a grape worth discovering. This example from Languedoc Roussillon is designed to be enjoyed in its youth, for its bright and upfront fruit character. Fragrant and zesty with tangy apple and lemon citrus fruit, and a decent length. Clean and zippy, and a good match for shellfish or seafood.
