A new buy for The Wine Society and it's a knockout for the price. Brézème is a newly 'rediscovered' Northern Rhône village south of Crozes-Hermitage of just six growers and fewer than 30ha, but is widely tipped to gets its own appellation soon. This domaine, bought by Nicolas Jaboulet in 2018, farms 4ha and from the outstanding 2016 has produced a pure, dense Syrah packed with blackberry, cracked pepper and sweet vanilla-spiced oak flavours. Brimming with energy, you can taste the sappy, stemmy whole-bunch fruit, which is lifted by bright acidity, floral finesse and bold tannins. Delicious now but will keep a decade or more.
