In his vintage preview of the 2021 southern Rhône reds, published in spring of this year, Decanter's Rhône correspondent Matt Walls warned that the wines of the Gigondas appellation can be inconsistent in this year. This is one of the successes of the vintage, a warm, rich and full-bodied mouthful, displaying almost candied dark forest fruits, and a hint of demerara sugar-like sweetness alongside the oak spice and garrigue herbs. (Mix-six price: £17.99)
