Lidl, Costières de Nîmes 2018

This is the same price as the white Côtes du Rhône in Lidl's current French wine selection, but this is far better bang for your buck. The blend of grapes is almost the same, with Grenache Blanc taking the lead in both, but this Costières de Nîmes has far more personality. There's a restrained elegance, a hint of hawthorn and white flowers, and mouthwatering juicy fruit in the mouth. This would be lovely with seafood or roast chicken. Around 95% of wine produced in Costières de Nîmes is red, but the rarer whites are definitely worth seeking out.
