Casreli Winery, Qvevri Kisi, Kakheti, Georgia 2020

Five doctors, including the owner Misha Dolidze, created the Casreli winery in 2014 with an ambition to produce natural wines with Georgian traditional methods. Aged for 4 weeks on the skins without stems, this richly intensive qvevri Kisi is dark amber in colour, featuring a nose of marmalade, mint tea, apricot and baked yellow apple. Minty yellow fruits, orange peel and quince form a concentrated core of flavours, leading to a black tea-like finish. Robust, almost difficult-to-swallow tannins, a wine crying for food.
