Dr Loosen, Slate Hill Riesling, Mosel, Germany, 2015

A medium-dry style from one of the masters of German Riesling, this is excellent value and is much more flexible than the 42.6 grams per litre of residual sugar may suggest. Try it with tempura-battered calamari or a rich but fragrant curry and see how the sugars and acids bring out the best in the food. A fresh lime character is followed by a hint of cream from four months lees ageing in oak. The sweetness is lifted by a slight petillance and crisp acidity.
