Zum Krug, Sekt Brut, Rheingau, Germany

This is a private bottling for Restaurant Zum Krug in Hattenheim in the Rheingau, nested in a half-timbered house in the historic village centre – the fact that the UK importer is a longstanding patron of the place makes it available here. This is the only tank-fermented Sekt in this line-up, hence the great price. Tender hints of apple and citrus are shy on the nose but unfold beautifully on the light and sprightly body. Especially the lemony top notes, anchored in riper stone fruit, make this a joyful apéritif style. Great value, too.
