Argaman is one of the few Israeli specialty gapes; a cross of Carignan and the Portuguese port grape Souzão, it was developed by Professor Roi Spiegel of the Volcani Institute of Agricultural Research. The main aim to develop this variety was to add more colours to the wines produced in Israel (Argaman means deep purple in Hebrew). Segals is one of the country’s pioneers in producing quality Argaman wines.
This wine has a minty, oolong-tea like nose underlined by earthy raspberry and cherry fruits. The palate has juicy, ripe red fruits, spiced by liquorice, black tea and coffee bitterness. Despite the 2012 vintage, it still has some grippy tannins with good acids to refresh, followed by an herbal, earthy finish.
