Frescobaldi, Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva, Italy 2017

Nipozzano is the name of an ancient castle owned by the Frescobaldi family in the heart of the Chianti Rufina. An intense nose of smoked sour cherry, blueberry, dried herbs and a hint of forest floor suggest development. The fresh mineral acidity provides an elegant lift to a pure palate of blackcurrant and sour cherry, with cedarwood, a hint of dried figs and black tea-like tannins. Salivating smoked prunes on the long finish. A proportion of the wine is aged in used barriques for 24 months.
