Orbitali, Primitivo, Puglia, Italy, 2015

Primitivo is closely related to Zinfandel, but tends to be a bit lighter. As this wine proves though, there is still plenty of richness left in the pot. Dark fruit aromas are lifted by a note of violets, and the dense palate features savoury fruit, star anise and sweet spices, accompanied by some woodiness from up to 9 months spent in barrel. The finish has luscious macerated black cherry hints.
