Adler, Sylvaner, Alto Adige/Südtirol, 2017

Sylvaner is a grape usually associated with Alsace, but this delightful example comes from further south in Italy's mountainous South Tyrol region. The joy of this wine lies in its delicacy and freshness - this is not a white for those who like bags of ripe, tropical fruit or lashings of vanilla oak. Instead, you'll find faint aromas of white flowers, hawthorn and clean apple. It's a breath of fresh air, and a perfect food wine for delicately flavoured fish or chicken dishes.
