Mazzei, Castello di Fonterutoli Poggio Badiola, Tuscany 2019

Driven by Sangiovese, this Tuscan red blend has been aged in French barriques for 10 months. A smoky nose of sour cherry, dried cranberry with savoury spices, nutmeg and dried herbs. Lovely purity on the palate with black cherry, blackberry fruits and black tea, supported by cocoa powder-like tannins, refreshed with decent acidity. A structured, good-value Italian red sold at £11 per bottle.
