Symington Family Estates, Altano Organic Douro Red, 2017

The Symingtons have 126ha of organic vineyards, making them Portugal's biggest organic grower. Partner to the Altano White, this is a blend of native Portuguese red grapes including Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca. Aromas of blackberry and black cherry dusted with spice, lead to a dense black-fruited palate with grippy tannins and leathery, black-pepper finish. Good acidity keeps it fresh; drinking well now but it will keep for five years. Serve with roast beef.
