Tesco, Finest Douro, Douro Valley, Portugal, 2019

The 2019 vintage in the Douro was milder than usual, and has produced a concentrated and darkly fruited wine here, with modest alcohol and good freshness (neither guaranteed in table wines from the region, which can be fiercely hot in summer). There's a lovely fragrance of violet and plum, which continues on to the structured palate. Pair this with grilled meats – barbecue in summer!
