Waitrose, Loved & Found Castelão, Lisboa, Portugal, 2019

Waitrose launched its Loved & Found range in 2019. All wines are priced at under £10, and the aim is to showcase lesser known grapes that have the potential to be the popular varieties of the future. This recent addition is a cracker. Usually found in Portuguese red blends, the Castelão grape produces easy-drinking wines with soft, ripe tannins and flavours of red and black plum, and brambly blackberry fruit. There's a lick of vanilla from the four to six months in French and American oak.
