Springfield Estate, Special Cuvée Sauvignon Blanc, Robertson, South Africa 2021

Springfield Estate is long-established in South Africa's Robertson region, and has earned a reputation for its Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit for this very distinctive wine comes from 39-year-old vines, the grapes picked at two different stages during the harvest. Taste this blind and you can tell it's not from Marlborough, which dominates when it comes to New World Sauvignon Blanc. It's a very different style to that, smoky and textured, aromatic but not overly pungent, with refreshing acidity.
