Majestic, Definition Barrel Fermented Old Vine Chenin Blanc, Stellenbosch, South Africa 2023

New on the shelves, this features grapes picked late for richness and ripeness. A fifth is whole-bunch pressed, the other 80% pressed with skin contact. The juice is then fermented in 400-litre oak barrels with 30% new oak, before remaining on lees in the barrel for eight months. Green-gold in the glass, with warm, toasty, leesy roundness, and juicy tropical fruit flavours. Not hugely complex but a very enjoyable example of the style. Mix-six price: £13.99.
