The Liberator, Francophile Chenin Blanc, Stellenbosch, 2015

Excellent value for a Chenin of this quality, packing a real punch. It is made by Carl van der Merwe at DeMorgenzon. He ferments old bush-vine fruit from the cool south-east slopes of the Bottelary Hills in stainless steel tanks and old oak foudres. Oyster shell minerality, zippy citrus acidity and a creamy palate of yellow apple and ripe apricot. Perfect now, but will improve if you can restrain yourself.
