Alicante is a good place to look for good-value reds in Spain, made usually as here from the Monastrell grape. The vineyards at Bodegas Volver lie 600m above sea level, and some of the vines are up to 90 years old. Wines are made with minimal intervention, and this red has been aged for six months in second-use French oak. Expect to find a perfumed and easy-drinking, fruit forward wine with chewy, blackberry and black cherry fruit. Bright and juicy, a good-value everyday red. £8.99
