Aldi, Exquisite Collection, Ribera del Duero, 2016

Ribera del Duero is a region that produces reds from Tempranillo, but in a completely different style to that of Rioja further north. This wine is excellent value, with black fruit and meaty notes with a touch of violet aromatics. In the mouth it's sweet, smooth and quite concentrated, with fine-grained woody textured tannins. There is some oaky spice and vanilla alongside the black fruits on the finish.
