Bodegas Bohórquez, Momo, Ribera del Duero, Spain 2016

This smooth operator is made from the grapes that don't quite make the cut for the flagship Bohórquez wine, which sells for almost double the price (not available from The Wine Society). There's plenty of spicy oak, fragrant and quite flashy plummy fruit, and an attractive balance between the fleshy fruit and tannic frame. It's polished in style, and would be a crowd-pleaser when matched with a hearty meat dish. One for those who favour exuberance over elegance.
