What a treat! A mature Rioja, displaying all the complexity that you'd expect from a gran reserva at nearly 20 years of age: elegant and classic in style, with fresh and chewy dark berry fruit, and tertiary notes of tobacco and cedar. If only other wine regions followed Rioja's suit and showed the same commitment to releasing wines with this level of bottle age, at this kind of price.
