Celler Credo, VI-D-RE, Penedès, Spain, 2020

Stand-out sparkling wine producer Recaredo produces a range of still wines too, among which is this VI-D-RE cuvée, made from 100% Xarel-lo. It’s reductive and smoky on the nose, and these flinty, dark characters ease out into more tropical tones on the palate. Pineapple with a floral note underneath. Peppy tangerine rind lifts up the lush mango and almond flavours, as does the light grip on the finish. It’s pithy and a touch funky, but still vibrant and fresh.
