Bodegas Ysios, Selección 'En Primeur', Rioja, Alavesa, 2017

Blended from old Tempranillo vines in small plots across the Rioja Alavesa region, this 2017 vintage of Seleccion is tasted here as an unfinished wine, shown 'en primeur' at Decanter's London Fine Wine Encounter. It's a baby, inevitably, that needs time to come together. The fruit profile is lush and black, the body is full and the acidity refreshing. The oak still needs to integrate, but the potential is already apparent.
