The Hidden Vine, Mazuelo, Rioja, Spain 2021

The Mazuelo (Carignan) is believed to be born in the ninth century. Once planted widely in Spain, today the variety is a rarity in Rioja. Dark cherry, dried goji berry on the nose. Made using grapes from old vines, it's rounded on the palate with a solid structure. Good acidity to offset the ripe notes of sun dried dark fruits and black tea, finishing with hints of ink.
