Rafael Palacios, As Sortes, Val do Bibei, Valdeorras, 2015

I have pretty much fallen hook line and sinker for the Godello grape over 2017, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better example (well okay, you can go to the top single-vineyard Sorte O Soro from the same producer but expect to spend quite a bit more). Rafael is the younger brother of the rather brilliant Alvaro Palacios, and has chosen to put the family winemaking talents into some of Spain's best whites. This is vibrant in the fullest sense of the word, a physical wine that wakes you up and makes you smile, full of citrus, fleshy white pear, honeydew melon, touches of hazlenut and a taut confidence.
