Bodega Mustiguillo, Finca Calvestra, Valencia, Spain, 2013

The Finca Calvestra vineyard is one of the highest in the whole of Valencia, at an altitude of 900 metres. Local variety Merseguera has been grafted onto 40 year old Bobal vines and produces a complex wine that has seen 12 months in Burgundian barrels before bottling. Light citrus and wax aromas lead into a rich and spicy palate, opening with baked apple before segueing into tinned peach and mango on the mid-palate. A vibrant, refreshing wine with a dose of gum tingling acidity on the finish.
